CLINT EASTWOOD: HATE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO
Back in December, I wrote about “Richard Jewell”, the Clint Eastwood film that purports to tell the “true” story of the media’s handling of the bombing at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. The Atlanta Journal Constitution accurately reported that Richard Jewell had been identified as a suspect in the bombing. Nevertheless, Jewell filed a libel lawsuit against the AJC. That suit resulted in a judgment in the AJC’s favor, validating its reporting.
Those facts apparently didn’t provide quite enough drama for Mr. Eastwood, who invented a plot point where AJC reporter Kathy Scruggs slept with an FBI agent to get information on the investigation. In my blog, I called the film a travesty.
And it appears, the movie going public was unimpressed with Mr. Eastwood’s effort. The film has made the list of “50 worst openings ever” according to Box Office Mojo.
I didn’t realize I had such clout.
