My former colleague Andrea Rose sent me this piece last week, which I just now got a chance to read. It’s a brief in a Tennessee criminal case. Apparently, the prosecutor filed a motion in limine to prohibit the parties in the case from referring to the State of Tennessee as “the government.” I’m serious. And considering what “the government” has wrought lately – the fiscal cliff, the shutdown, the Affordable Health Care rollout – I can see where the prosecutor is coming from.
But still. It’s a crazy motion. And that is the beauty of the response. It captures the sheer absurdity in a devastatingly funny response. Occasionally, I read another lawyer’s work, and think “I wish I’d written that.” This is one of those times
