Melissa Carleton Quoted in Title IX Article by Higher Ed Dive

Firm News
In an article titled “Final Title IX rules likely to be pushed beyond October,” Bricker Graydon attorney Melissa Carleton gives insight into the likelihood of the Education Department meeting its October deadline to release the Final Title IX rule that was originally announced for April of 2023.

The short answer?  It is unlikely that the final regulations will be released in October 2023, due to the need for review by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) prior to finalization.

Melissa encourages colleges to have conversations now about how they want their policies to look, as the draft rules have some initial insight into what Title IX mandates could be coming. She guesses that colleges will need to follow new regulations by July 1 of 2024, but the schedule is still very much up in the air.
