Appeals
The Graydon appellate team has extensive experience in appellate courts around the region. The team is comprised of experienced advocates, including a number of former judicial law clerks. We have briefed and argued cases in virtually every Ohio Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court; the Kentucky Court of Appeals and the Kentucky Supreme Court; Indiana courts of appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court; federal courts of appeals including the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; and a wide variety of federal and state administrative review bodies. Our experience extends to all aspects of appellate practice, including evaluating a case to determine if an appeal is an appropriate remedy. Because successful appeals begin at the trial level, we actively work to shape and preserve the trial record so cases are advantageously positioned in the event of an appeal.
In addition to representing clients in appeals arising out of litigation handled by the Firm at the trial level, we are frequently retained as appellate counsel or co-counsel to defend or challenge a result obtained by other attorneys at an earlier stage of proceedings. A litigant facing an appeal can often benefit from the fresh perspective brought to the case by experienced appellate lawyers not involved at the trial level.
Effective appellate advocacy requires particular skills and knowledge. The Graydon appellate team is ready to assist in this complex area by providing outstanding representation in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
