Why I Love The First Amendment

I am constantly amazed at cases like this one. An appellate court in Maryland recently decided that a local ordinance banning fortune telling violates the First Amendment. Now I am not a big believer in fortune telling, the occult or most other scams. But I love the fact that the First Amendment might cover this. I suspect that not one of the founding fathers thought about whether the First Amendment might apply to fortune telling. And I suspect the list of things like that would be long. But that’s the genius of the Constitution. It’s not a check list. And we simply don’t always know when or where its protections might apply. And I offer this in honor of fortune tellers everywhere.
